Brian Schanen is a media educator, video producer, and video strategist. Brian earned both his Bachelor of Art in Communication and Master of Science in Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has worked with countless small businesses and nonprofit organizations to implement video into their marketing and business processes.

Currently a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Brian teaches courses in public speaking, media production and media studies. A strong supporter of media literacy Brian works with students to grow critical thinking, communication, and research skills. In his teaching, Brian and leveraged a range of course delivery methods, including in-person, remote-synchronous, and fully asynchronous online courses.

With nearly two decades of forensics (competitive speech) experience, Brian serves as the Co-Director of the university forensics team. From winter 2019 to spring 2020, Brian worked on preparing the university to host the 2020 National Forensics Association Tournament, before being canceled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Prior to teaching, Brian worked with highly ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Business and Economics. He oversaw a video studio that turned around over 700 videos per semester in support of the college online business degree programs. Additionally, Brian supported the video marketing efforts of the college.

Brian has also worked with Baird Group, a healthcare consulting firm. There he greatly increased Baird Group’s use of video and played a major role in organizing their online learning platform, Baird Group Online Learning.
